How do buyers contact me?

They scan your sign, see your car’s year, make, model and trim, are reminded to compare the VIN on the car with the VIN in your ad, and tap through to your ad on AutoTrader, Cars.com, eBay Motors or PrivateAuto. They message you there, using that site’s own messaging and buyer protections.

Will buyers see my phone number?

Not from us. Your sign has a QR code, not a number, and private sellers never give ScanAutos a phone number. What you share on your listing site is up to you. Most sites let you keep it hidden and use their messaging instead.

Which car sites can I link to?

AutoTrader, Cars.com, eBay Motors and PrivateAuto. We only allow links to car sites that give buyers some protection, and we check that each link goes to an ad on one of them. Free classified sites and social media aren’t allowed. We don’t control those sites or their protections, and ScanAutos doesn’t check any ad.

I’m a dealer or run a car lot. What do I do?

Contact us. Dealer and car-lot accounts are set up by our team: email [email protected] with your business name, website, city and how many cars you list, and we’ll reply. We match your business details to your published website. We don’t independently verify dealer licenses, or your right to sell any particular vehicle.

What happens when I mark it Sold?

Your preview page shows “Sold” and stops linking to your listing, so nobody keeps reaching out. Seven days after you mark it sold (or seven days after it expires), its details and your listing link are permanently deleted, and your sign’s QR code then shows that the listing has ended.

Is ScanAutos a car dealer?

No. ScanAutos.com is not a dealer, broker or lot and never owns or sells vehicles. Every listing is created and controlled by an independent seller who is a ScanAutos customer. We provide the sign and a preview page that links to the seller’s own listing. The sale is entirely between buyer and seller. Read the full disclaimer.

I found a ScanAutos sign on my car that I didn’t put there.

Report it at scanautos.com/complaint with the code printed on the sign. Reports like this hide the listing while our team investigates.

Can buyers buy the car on ScanAutos?

No, and that’s on purpose. You meet, inspect and agree on payment directly. Never accept gift cards, wires or overpayments.
